The Promise Messiah and Return  (Isaiah 7:14)

Introduction:  The god we know is a God of promise.  His promises are unmerited blessings.  Some unconditional.  Some unexplainable.  But all are a result of God’s grace.  “God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He  spoken, and will He not make it good? Numbers 23:19 (NKJV)

  1. Prophecies in the Old Testament about the Messiah
  2. He would be the seed offspring of a woman who would crush the head of Satan. (Genesis 3:15)
  3. He would come from the seed of Abraham and bless all the nations on earth. (Genesis 12:3)
  4. He would be a prophet like Moses to whom we must listen. (Deuteronomy 18:15)
  5. He would be born in Bethlehem of Judah. (Micah 5:2) 
  6. He would be born of a virgin. (Isaiah 7:14) 
  7. He would have a throne, Kingdom or House starting with King David. (2 Samuel 7:16)
  8. He would be pierced for our transgressions and crushed for our iniquities. (Isaiah 53:5)
  9. He would die with the wicked but be buried with the rich. (Isaiah 53:9)
  10. He would be resurrected from the grave for God would not allow His Holy One to suffer decay. (Psalm 16:10)

 

  1. The Signs of the Messiah’s coming – Though King Ahaz refused the sign, God still gave him the three elements of the sign. (Isaiah 7:14)
  2. The child would be born by a virgin
  3. The child will be raised in a time of calamity
  4. The alliance of Aram/Israel will be broken

 

  • The fulfillment of the promise (Matthew 1:18-25)
  1. The child was not caused by a man, but through the Holy Spirit.
  2. The promises of God to provide salvation. The name Jesus, Immanuel, God with us.

 

  1. The return of the Messiah/Rapture
  2. Jesus promised His return. (John 14:1)
  3. A blessed hope. (Titus 2:11-13)

Conclusion:  God’s promises are guaranteed through the total victory that Christ won for us.  In Christ alone, we find fulfillment of each promise and in Him we become recipients of His grace.  We look forward, to the glorious appearing of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to be with Him forever.
